Harder Is Better

“YEAH IT’S HARD, IT’S SUPPOSED TO BE!”

This quote, as we all know, applies to all things worth doing in life…but it still sucks to hear and sucks even more to experience.

I think about this simple fact of life every single time I wake up knowing I am about to do P90X2’s P.A.P. Lower, P.A.P. Upper, or Plyocide workout.  The simple thought of anyone of these 3 workouts literally makes me not want to exercise – so much so that the night before I start scaring myself into not working out.  Then, the morning of the workout, I find myself reciting excuses as to why I should skip that day’s workout.

BUT, every single time, at least for the last two years, I HIT PLAY AND, GUESS WHAT, I FEEL BETTER BY THE END OF THE WORKOUT!

Yeah, the workouts are hard but so is life, and the harder you live it the easier living becomes!

That is worth repeating…

…LIVE LIFE HARD AND LIVING BECOMES EASIER!!!

LIFE IS HARD ENOUGH, SO WHY MAKE IT HARDER?

Life itself is hard enough BUT I think we can all agree LIFE is worth doing…right?

So, being that Life itself is hard enough, WHY THE HELL would we do anything to make it even harder?

The easy answer – because the harder stuff we do the less hard the other hard stuff will be…makes perfect sense right?

HARDER CAN MAKE HARD EASY-ER

Doing harder things is the only way to get better, and in turn, make the less hard things of life easy-er.

Think about it for a second, the only way to get better at anything in life is to make whatever you think is hard easier.

So, in sports, we practice until we get better and once we are as good as we THINK we can be we go out and play other teams.  Well, if we only play teams that are easy to beat we will never get any better because we won’t have to get any better.  BUT, if we play a hard team to beat, i.e. a better team, we have the opportunity, or are forced, to get better…that is if we plan on ever beating the better team.

This may seem a bit weird, but it’s human nature – the only way we improve is by challenging, or sometimes forcing, ourselves to get better!

And the only way to get better is to WORK HARDER!

Still not buying it?  Think about this simple example.  Learning to walk is a pretty hard thing to accomplish (yeah, we take it for granted but I think we can all agree it seems like a pretty hard task for kids…and especially for the unfortunate teens and adults that have to re-learn the act).

So, we can all agree learning to walk is hard but we can also all agree that running is harder…and that the more we run the easier we realize walking is….POOF!

It’s magic!? No, not really, it’s just human nature.

SO, HARDER = BETTER RESULTS

Be it more intensity, more weights, more reps, a better opponent, or new exercises, the point is to LIVE OUTSIDE YOUR COMFORT ZONE AND DO CHALLENGING THINGS IN YOUR LIFE…

….because the day you do is the day you’ll start getting and being BETTER!
