P90X3 – Day 1, Total Synergistics
Have you ever been punched in the face?
If so, did you stay standing?
If so, were you a bit stunned?
If you answered yes to the three questions above then you might understand how I felt at the end of P90X3’s Day 1 – Total Synergistics.
Total Synergistics…More Like Totally Surprised
Before getting ready for bed last night I decided to pop in P90X3’s Total Synergistics DVD to see what I’d be in for the next day. Well, I went to bed pretty underwhelmed. As the video ended last night, Niña asked me what I thought and my response was, “I don’t think it’ll be that difficult…only saw one move that has me a bit worried.”
The Doubts Start Creeping
So, I went to bed a bit worried about whether or not P90X3 would work. I sat there thinking for a good 10 minutes about how I thought Tony was missing the boat on this one. I fast-forwarded to the end of the program and envisioned myself with a good bit less muscle mass and some nice abs. I stayed awake thinking, “Yeah, I might have some nice abs, but if I lose mass I think I’ll be very bummed…especially if I don’t have the muscle mass I had at the end of P90X2.”
Trusting Tony Horton
Finally, after a good 15 or so minutes I remembered how I felt before starting my first round of P90X2 – I felt the exact same way.
Before starting, and well into the first few weeks of, P90X2 I thought I was going to lose a bunch of strength and mass. Well, it turned out to be the exact opposite. Even though I thought it was going to derail me a bit, P90X2 left me in the best shape of my life.
I doubted Tony Horton before and I found myself doing it again last night…that is until I remembered, as I have stated a few times on this site already, Tony Horton has yet to let me down and he has no reason to start now.
Day 1; Total Synergistics – The Punch In The Face
4:30 AM
So, after a good internal debate, I finally got some shuteye. When the alarm clock went off at 4:30 this morning I awoke to Niña’s voice, “Are you excited?” she whispered. I remember slightly grinning but I played it off like I was cool, “A bit I guess….just another workout…” or so I thought.
Yeah, I get excited when trying a new workout…that’s just how dorky I am.
5:00 AM
Thirty minutes later my workout partner showed up and we hit play.
5:15 AM
Fifteen minutes later I found myself looking up at the P90X3 countdown timer and realizing, with both a breath of joy and of fear, that we had just made it halfway!
We had just reached the halfway point and I felt both happy and a bit flustered.
5:25 AM
My body was sticking with the workout but my mind seemed a bit zoned out. And before I knew it….
5:30 AM
…the workout was over!
To be honest I felt relieved and a bit defeated – I felt staggered and a bit confused…like I had just been punched in the face by an invisible ninja. I couldn’t tell you what body parts or muscles were aching or which ones I had just used…I was just happy it was over!
Maybe it was because it was my first go at the workout, maybe it was the pace, maybe it was the moves, or maybe it’s just that good? To be honest it’s too soon to tell. I don’t feel sore or even tired yet – I just feel really good…as if the punch in the face woke me up and made me realize how good it feels to walk around life sans-punches in the face.
Whatever it was all I have to say is that, after being punched in the face, I am excited about the next 89 days!
Important Side Note: I very highly recommend previewing all P90X, P90X2, and P90X3 videos the night before so you’ll be a bit more ready for the workout. This is especially true with P90X3. Because P90X3 is a 30-minute workout Tony doesn’t really have time to show you the moves beforehand. So, be prepared before the workout starts, make sure to preview the session before you actually get into it.
