TO SHAKE OR NOT TO SHAKE-OLOGY, PART 2 of 3
WHY I DECIDED TO GIVE SHAKEOLOGY A TRY
So, if you read Part 1 of this three-part series, you already know why I decided to give Beachbody’s Shakeology a go, but if not, or if you’ve already forgotten, here’s a one sentence recap (or click on the link in this sentence).
I decided to give Shakeology a try because, after watching the movie Fat, Sick And Nearly Dead, the importance of having the proper amount of fruits, vegetables, and an overall high level of healthy-body-altering nutrients in your diet for your body’s overall well being and function hit me like a freight train…and I feared I did not have nearly enough nutrients in my life.
SO IS SHAKEOLOGY AS MAGICAL AS BEACHBODY SAYS IT IS?
In a word – MAYBE.
Seriously, maybe is my answer.
Well, because, depending on how many servings of the “super” and/or “power” foods you currently have in your diet you may or may not be getting the nutrients and/or nutritional value Shakeology provides.
I for one, knew I was not getting anywhere near the 8-12 recommended servings of veggies and, after watching Fat, Sick And Nearly Dead, I came to terms with the fact that I needed to up my nutrition game.
SO WHAT EXACTLY IS SHAKEOLOGY?
Contrary to what many folks think, Shakeology is not a protein shake!
Yeah, it has about as much protein as a protein shake, but…
…SHAKEOLOGY IS A MEAL REPLACEMENT SHAKE!
Shakeology is, and should be used as, a meal replacement shake. Yes, as many people already know, Shakeology does contains a good amount of protein, but it’s also packed with vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and phytonutrients, adaptogen herbs, prebiotics, probiotics, fiber, and digestive enzymes.
“…Uhm okay, but what does that all mean?”
Well, it means Shakeology has got pretty much everything a well-balanced meal would include…and typically a bit more.
Shakeology contains over 70 super-nutrients that help reduce hunger and food cravings, help detoxify and protect against free radicals, increase energy, and aid in digestion…not to mention promote stable blood sugar levels, skin, hair and nails…
From Chia Seed to Goji Berry to Amarnth to Maca Root, Shakeology includes a ridiculous number of super/power fruits and greens that help regulate, maximize, and enhance your body’s current overall well being.
So, even if you are already juicing, you’d be hard pressed to include all the nutrients found in Shakeology in your own personally created serving…it’d be both, really expensive and extremely time consuming.
…BUT DOES IT WORK?
DOES SHAKEOLOGY WORK?
In four words – I NOTICED A DIFFERENCE…both internally and externally…within the first week.
I just finished my first 30 days of Shakeology a week ago and dropped 3 pounds and 3% body fat…so most of it was unwanted weight!
YEAH, I LOST 3% BODY FAT IN 30 DAYS, BUT I STARTED NOTICING CHANGES ALMOST IMMEDIATELY!
I drank a Shakeology shake in place of one meal for 30 straight days and noticed a difference almost immediately.
First 24 Hours – Change in digestion…in a very good way.
Day Two – I noticed I had no real cravings for sweets…I know this to be a fact because there were a fresh batch of a dozen Publix Glazed Doughnuts sitting right there waiting for me to consume them after dinner and…I barely ate one..though I would have typically eaten three.
Day Three – Energy…there is really no other way to describe it, I DID NOT GET SLEEPY mid-afternoon or early evening, I felt focused and energized from the moment I woke up until it was time for bed.
Day 4 – Feelings of being bloated or uneasy digestion were completely gone…felt high and tight and lean.
Week 1 – 1 pound weight loss and all of the above. Energy level and “focus” (for lack of a better descriptive word) was up and pretty much all food cravings were gone (that’s not to say I wasn’t hungry when dinner time came around, it just means I didn’t have to have anything…especially sweets).
Week 2 – Almost 2 pounds down, noticeable clearer skin, and less soreness between workouts.
Day 30 – 3 pound weight loss with an almost 3% drop in body fat…and everything else previously mentioned.
SO, DOES SHAKEOLOGY WORK?
For me, in a word – YES!
SO, SHOULD YOU BUY SHAKEOLOGY?
Well, THAT DEPENDS!!!!
Depends on what you ask?
It depends on your current diet’s nutritional value, your current budget, and how you plan to use it.
Does your diet currently consist of a variety of super/power foods that provide a high level of nutritional value to your daily diet?
If so then you might not notice a difference…so I would say nope, you don’t need it…unless Shakeology can save you time and money (the time and money it takes you to shop and prep the food could be more than simply drinking Shakeology).
BUT, if you are spending more than $4 a meal then you might want to look into Shakeology…because it is about $4 a serving. FYI – In Fat, Sick And Nearly Dead the shopping list for juicing totaled from $15 – $40 per day which comes out to be $3 – $5 per serving…and Shakeology is right at about $4 per serving.
Are you currently spending less than $4 a day on lunch?
If so, and you feel pretty good about your current overall health, and/or you’re on a tight budget, then I’d tell you not to get Shakeology.
BUT if you are currently spending more than $4 a day on lunch, then look into Shakeology…because you might actually be able to save money and improve the overall nutritional value of your daily diet.
Do You Plan To Use Shakeology As A Meal Replacement Or A Supplement?
If you plan on using Shakeology as, what it is, a MEAL REPLACEMENT, then I would certainly recommend it for improved weight management, energy, and for all the other reasons mentioned above.
If you are planning to use Shakeology as a SUPPLEMENT then I would suggest researching other supplements for your specific goal because Shakeology is practically a meal and should be part of your diet, not a supplement to your diet…unless you have the financial ability to spend $4 a day on a supplement, then I would certainly recommend it.
SHAKEOLOGY ROUND UP
In just 30 days I truly feel like it has made a difference in my overall health and wellbeing. From more energy, to more focus, to less soreness, to better digestion and regularity, to weight loss and lean mass gains, to healthier skin, Shakeology has worked as advertised for me…but at $4 a serving it can be a bit pricey…but something worth investing in if you have the financial capability.
