Working Out Around An Injury – Labrum Tear + P90X2
1. WORKING OUT AROUND AN INJURY – LABRUM TEAR, THE INJURY
2. WORKING OUT AROUND AN INJURY – LABRUM TEAR, REHAB
3. WORKING OUT AROUND AN INJURY – LABRUM TEAR + P90X
LABRUM TEAR + P90X2
So, there I was…thinking my shoulder was 99.9% recovered from my full labrum tear.
I had done rehab with a physical therapist, regained my power lifting strength via my own workout regimen, and developed my shoulder stability with P90X…but the game was about to change!
I was about to start P90X2…and all shoulder, and personal, development was about to be tested.
You see, while the original P90X is more about traditional weight lifting moves, P90X2 is a lot more about high-level sports training.
What does that mean?
Well, it means all supporting (smaller) muscles are called into the game. No longer on the side lines, all your stability muscles are engaged and brought off the bench to help support the larger muscles as you do traditional weight lifting moves with a twist.
With P90X2 everything you may be accustomed to doing is tweaked.
For example, push-ups are done on medicine balls. This means you are forced to stabilize the balls, and yourself, while worrying about maintaining form during the push-up motion. On top of throwing in a number of new moves, P90X2 takes tweaks such as these and applies them to all original P90X moves.
This combination of new moves, alongside tweaked traditional exercises, makes P90X2 one of the best workout regimens out there.
It took about four weeks for my shoulder (and body) to adjust to P90X2, but by the end of the program I can honestly say…
…MY SHOULDER HAS NEVER BEEN STRONGER – pre or post injury.
More importantly, I can say that since completing my first round of P90X2 MY INJURED SHOULDER HAS NEVER HURT!
This is in no way a tainted plug for the P90X2 program – I am not a Beachbody Coach nor do I make any money promoting P90X or P90X2. This is simply a guy with a complete labrum tear in his right shoulder telling you that since completing P90X2 I have never had shoulder pain or issues.
Yes, I still workout 6 days a week to maintain, and further develop, my shoulder. But I had done this before P90X2 with occasional shoulder pain…and after completing P90X2 –
POOF! ALL PAIN GONE…and it has yet to return.
Now, just to throw a wrench in the equation, was it the P90X2 program or the half-year of Yoga that truly helped my shoulder injury recuperation?
Stay tuned!
